GOALS AND STRATERGIES
VISION:
Our vision is to enhance biodiversity and natural ecosystems within the local environment.
MISSION:
Our mission is to raise awareness of, protect and enhance the local environment.
GOALS:
- To protect and improve the quality of water in our creeks and the Riparian environment.
- To protect and nurture the biodiversity and extent of our natural ecosystems and species.
- To encourage sustainable use of natural resources by our primary industries and all landholders.
- To engage the local community in our endeavors and to increase the active membership of our landcare group.
Goal 1 - To protect and improve the quality of water in our creeks and the riparian environment:
- Encourage reduction of stock access to creeks.
- Where necessary and where possible, revegetate creek banks with local indigenous plant species.
- Encourage protection of remnant vegetation.
- Pursue biodiversity.
- Endeavor to eliminate pest plants from creeks and creek banks.
- Advise landholders of practices which will reduce pollutant run-off and creek turbidity.
- Nurture natural wetland areas.
- Seek funding grants where available.
- Consult with Catchment Management Authority where appropriate.
Goal 2 - To protect and nurture the diversity and extent of our natural ecosystems and species:
- Where necessary and where possible, revegetate with appropriate indigenous species.
- Encourage protection of remnant vegetation.
- Pursue biodiversity.
- Endeavor to eliminate pest plants and animals
- Educate the community about the benefits of tree hollows as habitat.
- Support bio-link and nature corridor activities.
- Seek funding grants where available.
- Promote a “persistence” attitude.
Goal 3 - To encourage sustainable use of natural resources by our primary industries and all land holders:
- Obtain and make available to land holders, information on appropriate stocking rates.
- Encourage practices that will reduce downstream salinity.
- Advise land holders of erosion prevention measures.
- Foster the proper use of agricultural chemicals.
- Educate land holders and the community of pest plants and animals.
- Wherever possible, “whole farm” plans to be consistent with our Mission.
Goal 4 - To engage the local community in our endeavors and to increase the active membership of our landcare group:
- Seek opportunities to be involved in local initiatives (ie. Lancefield Show).
- Publish our activities and successes.
- Actively support Junior Landcare initiatives at local primary schools.
- Where appropriate, consult all stakeholders of our activities.
- Provide consultancy where appropriate.
- Aim for a diverse membership.
